Since November 2009, the parish has been working to restore the church, convent and school. Here is an update of the restoration so far.
Phase 1: Work that has been completed includes:
Repairs to the roof and replacement of gutters on both the church and school
The roof on the convent has been replaced and the upstairs bedrooms updated with new drywall. A restroom and shower have also been installed on the second floor
The façade of the school has been cleaned and the masonry restored with tuckpointing
Energy-efficient windows and a new electrical panel have been installed in the school and will save money in the future
A handicapped-accessible restroom has been completed
Air conditioning has been installed in the former school as well as new window blinds in the second floor classrooms
Despite the fact that the school restoration is not yet complete, we are holding religious education, prayer and Bible study groups, English language and GED classes, Cursillo, retreats, pancake breakfasts, Mexican food events, receptions and other activities in this building. The parish also receives some income from renting the hall.
Phase 2: Work that has yet to be completed includes:
Renovation of the men’s restroom and refurbishing the kitchen
New entrance doors for the front of the school
A handicapped-accessible access ramp
Office equipment, furniture, and classroom furnishings
New air conditioning and heating system for the church
Restoration and painting of the church interior
Conversion of the first floor of the convent to parish offices and the rooms on the second floor to living quarters for the pastor
Transformation of the office area at the rear of the church into a chapel
